Modern Fairytale: Shannie and Ben

*Sometimes it is so easy to get wrapped up in what is wrong with the world, that we forget to celebrate the love and goodness that is in our lives.  I wanted to do an interview series about modern relationships and their dynamics.  What do you celebrate about your relationship? What keeps you and your partner together? Let's hear it and remember that even with all that is wrong with the outside world, sometimes the best spot is in the arms of your cherished partner!xoxo Katty Delux

Name: Shannie Shortcake and Ben

Age: In our 30's

How long have we been together : We met at a bar one night in 2014. I asked to take a picture with his beard although I hate facial hair, my friend thought his beard was epic and I wanted to show him.

We have been dating since October.

He did not want to have a girlfriend because he was going on an extended vacation to his hometown in Dec until February. He broke down and asked me to be his lady November 26, 2014. He also surprised me on NYE and has been home since.

What initially attracted me to him? He has amazing blue/grey eyes with a gold ring. His eyes were sad and when I met him I just wanted to be a good friend to him to make his eyes happy.  Done!

My favorite thing about him is that he makes me laugh. We have similar personalities and always have a blast together.

We have lived together officially since NYE but he stayed over a lot when we started dating.

I have a Scottish Fold kitty named Baby whom he has fully adopted.

My secret to a successful relationship is to have fun with your partner, compromise, support and accept them for who they are.

My advice for other couples is to be honest, be loyal and pay attention to each other.

I know this was mostly questions and answers but I would really like to write out our story. We haven't known each other long but it has been a very intense relationship.
Both of us have similar troubled childhoods and similar horrible relationship stories. We both were not looking for something when we met and we were not attracted to each other right away. We have so much fun together and we are so connected. Its very intense and the best way I can describe it is...every cliche statement about love...comes true when it is right ("when you find the one you realize why it never worked out with anyone else" "when you find the one, time stands still" "when you find the one you know" "you find the one when you stop looking" etc). Being so similar and everything falling into place, it seems like we have been together so much longer than we have. It feels like we were made for each other. I feel like I have been waiting my whole life for him and so there never seems to be enough time to "catch up." When we are in public no one else matters. Our friends say we are giving them cavities or make them want to vomit...we are rad!
I can honestly say that if I ever was "in love" before...I never knew what love really was before Ben.
My favorite pic of us is one we didn't know was taken. we were dancing in a bar.
His favorite pic of us is one where he dressed me up in his clothes and we were twinsies.
