Modern Fairytale Series: Devyn and Geoff

*Sometimes it is so easy to get wrapped up in what is wrong with the world, that we forget to celebrate the love and goodness that is in our lives.  I wanted to do an interview series about modern relationships and their dynamics.  What do you celebrate about your relationship? What keeps you and your partner together? Let's hear it and remember that even with all that is wrong with the outside world, sometimes the best spot is in the arms of your cherished partner!

xoxo Katty Delux

Name(s):
Devyn and Geoff

Age(s):
33 and 34

How long have you been together?
We just celebrated our 14th anniversary; we dated a year prior to getting married, so 15 years

Are you married, engaged, dating, domestic partnership:
We are an old married couple

How long have you known each other?
15 years

How long were you together before you took the next step in your relationship?
We immediately became good friends the moment we met and started hanging out all the time; going on walks, late night trips to the donut shop, sitting on the swings at the elementary school playground… just about 6 weeks after we met we were officially dating, 7 months after that we were engaged, and 6 months after that we were married!  We were very young, we were only 19 and 20!

What initially attracted you to your partner?
Devyn-- Honestly, I liked his style, Geoff was born and raised in California, and he oozed So-Cal surfer dude charm when he was 19, but his warm heart, funny sense of humor, and loyalty are what won me over.

Geoff-- Devyn’s fun, bubbly, yet edgy personality, She was an injection of
life to a small boring community that was our college campus and every one noticed her.

What is your favorite thing/attribute about your partner?

 Devyn:
 My favorite thing about Geoff is that I KNOW he will ALWAYS be there, that I can ALWAYS count on him, that he will ALWAYS love me. I think finding someone that you can trust like that is a rarity and truly a gift.  Also, I love that he is a good sport and is  always willing to do silly things that I ask him to do, like wearing a crazy Halloween costume, or wearing an ugly Christmas sweater to go see Santa, or just having crazy dance parties in our kitchen while doing the dishes!  He supports me, and “gets” me and is always a willing participant in any adventures or shenanigans I want to embark in.

Geoff:
- I love so many things about her . My favorite thing is how good she is to
me. She knows when I need cheered up,  or my mood lightened, and always has something funny to do or say to make me file. She also gives gifts better than anyone I know. She loves giving to people she loves, and when she gives something she makes sure that the gift is something that really makes the recipient feel special and loved.

Do you have children and/or pets together?
Yes, a few years into our marriage we were surprised with the news that we were going to have a baby… I was only 21 and terrified, but now I have a beautiful 11 year old daughter who is truly and individual and not afraid to stand out and be different!  Four and a half years after Shaylee was born, William, our son, made is grand entrance!  He is not almost 7 years old, he loves skate boarding, and making people laugh.. he is full of it.  We also have a fluffy little Pomeranian named Leo!

What is your secret to a successful relationship?
I think the secret to our relationship being successful is just that we have a lot of fun together!  We are truly each other’s favorite people and we always share laughs.  We are also really lovey dovey…We smooch and hug, and slap each other’s butts on the daily.   Keeping those new love butterflies flying around in my stomach –at least once in a while—after being together 15 years is something I am proud of!

What is your parting advice that you would like to leave for other couples?
Get the idea of having a "perfect" relationship out of your mind-- it will not happen, there is no such thing as PERFECT... you are going to argue, you are going to get annoyed with one another. The important things is to be committed enough to loving each other to get through those tough times when you don't really like each other that much. If you are with someone long enough, a day or two like that is bound to happen.  We get in some pretty heated shouting matches from time to time, but we make up really well!  I don't think we have a perfect relationship, but I do think we have a pretty damn good one.
