 Kelsey Roberts.

Age: 30
Occupation: Complex Legal Research Consultant

Where are you from: Dodge Center, Minnesota

Favorite photographer to work with: So many talented people who are just amazing- a few recent favorites are Elizabeth Renee Photography, Rick Andersen of Hitman Photographics David Bram, John Thornbrugh of Street Metal Images, KC PhotoEye, R. Scott Anderson of Anderson Artwork, Chris Dorsey, Gene Starr, David Michael, Rebel Photos, and the Foto Fairy. I have so many other great photographers I am working with in 2014, too. I feel very blessed!

Artist/Photographer/location of featured photo(s)
How long have you been modeling/enjoying photography? Almost 19 years with a 7 year break after having my son. I started modeling again about 2 years ago.

Who are your favorite Pinup Models? Jane Russell (also a native Minnesotan & a distant relation... By marriage. But still!) and Marilyn Monroe (A woman who was constantly underestimated but she made an iconic life from hard beginnings. I admire her drive & ambition to be something far different from what social norms dictated for her circumstances. Her life wasn't easy & it was tragically short but she was something special.)

Past or present inspiration? I am most inspired by the everyday, normal women I meet who put themselves out there as pin up models. They are beautiful, confident & promote body positive attitudes just by being themselves. I love that!

What is some of your favorite clothing lines? Ark & Co, Burberry, Steady.

Favorite Designers? Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen, Stella McCarthy.

If you could shoot with any photographer, past or present, who would it be? Annie Leibovitz: her work is moving, surprisingly intimate & interesting.

What is your favorite color and why? Red! It just makes me happy.

If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead who would it be? My grandparents & Dad. I miss them a lot... I'd love to even just to be able to hug them again.

How did you get your model name? I didn't consider using a professional name when I started out as it wasn't that common to do so and I have continued to use my real name.

What is your favorite city to visit and why? Ko Olina, Hawaii. Family time in paradise is pretty hard to beat. Mountains , volcanoes, the ocean, dolphins, whales and lush trees all in one very laid back place. Plus it's a great place to sky dive!

Do you have a favorite song or artist? I'm loving the Black Keyes,  currently. I love all music though: Billy Idol, Prince, R.E.M., George Michael, Brahms, Chopin, Yo-Yo Ma, Eminem, Tech N9ne, Citizen Cope, The Crystal Method, Rolling Stones, Bella Fleck, The Ramones, Buzzcocks, The Band that Saved the World. It all makes me happy!

I am a huge fan art in general: Chagall, David Salle,
Matisse, Van Gogh, Degas, and Rodin are all time favorites.

I'd like to include the link to CT Magazine UK because I feel I wrote a nice little piece about disability & chronic medical conditions that can be so harmful to a woman's soul. The stigma is awful!!- I'm trying to help change the way women who suffer chronic acute health issues see themselves as well as how others see them. Otherwise it would just be some pictures but... I wish someone had taken me aside and explained I wasn't broken or less of my disability because it sure felt that way. Maybe the article will help someone. I have had an overwhelming response from people all over the world and I'm so pleased I could help some people who needed it,

Tattoo Tuesday

My name is Travis Stahl
37 yrs old
Combat Medic/ E.R. Technician
I was 18 when I got my first tattoo
My Favorite tattoo(s) would be the tattoos on my ribs ( both sides )
My featured tattoo is on my rib cage from arm pit to hip bone

The artist that did the work is Jamie Cooley, he works at Synergy Tattoo in Knoxville, TN
the background behind the tattoo:  I saw an image that I thought would be a great base for a tattoo and I had an artist friend modify it to more of a military feel. We were deployed in Afghanistan when he drew it and I told him that the minute I hit boots back stateside I was going to have it tattooed onto my ribs. It's even more special to me because not only does it reflect what I do in the military but it was drawn up by one of the soldiers that I was responsible for keeping safe. He also put in my OIF and OEF tour dates in the arms of the medical cross which meant alot to me since I had treated severely wounded soldiers during deployments.

2: I have 14 tattoos in total, I have a joker on my left chest, a guardian angel on my right chest, I have the Grim Reaper on my left upper arm/shoulder ( first tat ) I have a native american in a headdress on my right upper arm/shoulder, I have a cartoon wolf on my right inner forearm, I have my oldest sons initials in chinese on my right inner wrist, I have initials on my left hand between my pointer finger and thumb, I have a wizard on my left shoulder blade, I have a tribal with scripting across the top of my shoulders and neck, I have a dragon in the middle of my back, I have the crucifix on the rock of ages on my left ribs, I have my combat medicine skull on my right ribs, I have my lowrider emblem on my left inner ankle, and I have buster bunny dressed as a gangster w tommy gun on my right calf.

3: Do I plan on getting more tattoos? Heck yes I do. I would love to get 3/4 or full sleeves done on at least one arm if not both

4: How did my family and friends feel about my ink? I think they kind of expected it. I was quite rebellious when I was 17-18 and most of them knew it was going to happen. I know that my parents didn't really approve but they knew that I was going to be me so they just accepted it. My friends have always liked my tattoos and even have helped in my quest for new ideas, I have had some people shun me at first impression based on that fact that I have tattoos but once they get to know me they forget about them or they become very interested in why I have them and want to learn more about it. I do have to wear long sleeves in the E.R. so as not to offend a patient that may not be comfortable with tattoos or the subject matter that is tattooed on me.

5: The most interesting experience I've ever had in regards to my tattoos is probably when the artist that did the work on my rock of ages/crucifix told me that I was tougher that most of the football players and "cage fighters" since I sat for 6 hours straight and wanted him to keep going till it was done.

6: The best advice I would give to anyone interested but that hasn't gotten a tattoo yet would be to make sure that you get something that has some personal meaning to you, whether it represents a time in your life, a specific event that happened, etc. don't get the first "cookie cutter design" you see on the wall of the shop or in the book cause you think it's cool at that moment and be you, don't follow the crowd and get a tattoo of what's in style at the moment!!! Also do your homework/research on what you really want tattooed on you the rest of your life and make sure you research the shop and artist that you are going to have do the work! you get the quality and cleanliness that you pay for. Dude's garage is probably never going to be a good place to get a tattoo....jus saying!

7: My least favorite part of being tattooed would have to be two different parts that are tied for my #1, I hate having to wait so long to have it finished, and having to wait to get the next one! As for stories or advice to those that don't have tattoos........well all I can say is don't judge a book by it's cover! You may not like tattoos and you may never get one but for those of us that have them they are an expression of who we are and that doesn't make us bad people. Some of us tattooed people may have saved a life of someone you know in some way, shape or form.

How long have you been modeling/enjoying photography?
I have always had a passion for photography, but my passion started behind the camera. I was often known as the family photographer.  I even went to college for photography. My love  to be on the other side of the lens started in my early 20s.

Who are your favorite Pinup Models? Past or present inspiration?
One of my biggest inspirations was not a pinup, but a Russian-born American singer, comedian, actress, and radio personality, Sophie Tucker. Known for her stentorian delivery of comical and risqué songs. She was known as “The Last Red Hot Mama's”.  How could she not be an inspiration!

What is some of your favorite clothing lines? Favorite Designers?

If you could shoot with any photographer, past or present, who would it be?
What is your favorite color and why?
Any shade of green.  Green goes great with Redheads!
If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead who would it be?
Sophie Tucker.

How did you get your model name? I’ve just always been sassy.

What is your favorite city to visit and why?
Traverse City, Michigan.  It’s Ella’s (my dog) favorite place to camp & swim.
Do you have a favorite song or artist?
This question is just too tough for me to answer.  Here is my answer to any question music related… I feel that EVERY genre of music has at least a handful of AMAZING songs.

Tattoo Tuesday

Name or Alias: Casey Cooksey
Age: 29
Occupation: Retail Clerk (Flow Team at Target)
Age of first tattoo: 19
Favorite tattoo: Mermaid
Featured tattoo/location: Mermaid with ship on right arm
Artist/shop/location of feature tattoo: Jeremiah Beshears (was at Federal Tattoo in Sunnyvale, CA, but moved to Locally Famous in Spring,Texas)

about your featured tattoo- is there a background story about why you chose it, or maybe a special meaning?
I've always loved mermaids and pirate ships, so i really wanted to have a mermaid scene on my arm. She's sad because her love is leaving on a ship.

2) Do you have any other tattoos? If so, what do you have and where?
Yes, I have a forest scene of American Mcgee's Alice and chesire cat on my left arm, American Mcgee's white rabbit on my left leg, Bela Lugosi as Dracula on my right calf, and my first tattoo (flash art from a book) on my right shoulder.

3) Do you plan on getting more?
I would love to get more when I have the money to do so. I still need to finish up my monster leg! (Frankenstein's monster and bride of frankenstein)

4) How do your family and friends feel about your tattoo(s)? Have you run into any adversity or negativity because of them?

My father's side of the family is tattooed, my mother's side is not. They are the ones that usually deem it inappropriate to have them. (Both of my parents have tattoos). My brother and I are seen as the black sheep of my mother's side of the family because we appear "rough" or alternative compared to them.

5)What's the most interesting experience you've ever had in regards to your tattoos?
My most interesting experience would be that I've opened some people's minds about the tattoo world just by showing my tattoos to them. To them, it seems less daunting because they see that I have tattoos. They realize that "nice girls" or "good girls" can have tattoos as well.

6) Any advice for those interested in getting tattooed but haven't gotten one yet?
I would say to think long and hard about what you want. Don't get something on a whim that you won't be happy with later. I did that for my first tattoo and kind of wish i'd saved the space for something else. I thought about my first BIG tattoo for a year before i got it (the American Mcgee's Alice scene). Also, If you have a job that doesn't allow you to show tattoos, get it in a place you can hide it.

7) What is your least favorite part of being tattooed? Do you have any stories/advice to people who are not tattooed?
When i was on my 4th or 5th session of one of my arm tattoos, my body couldn't take it anymore. My nerves were shot. Tattoos that take a long time are a pain :).
My advice to people who are not tattooed yet: don't get a big tattoo for your first tattoo. Try something smaller until you know how you feel when you get tattooed.
