Nearly Famous Pinup Wednesday ~ Anidea

Name // Anidea
blog name//website:

Age: 30

Occupation: Life. I also teach English when I’m not too busy doing life.

Where are you from:
Originally from the most awesome city in the entire world Cape Town in South Africa. I am currently based in Luanda, Angola and travel between RSA (South Africa) and Angola.

Favorite photographer to work with: Hannes Erasmus

Artist/Photographer/location of featured photo(s)
1.     Photographer Alistar, Durbanville, CPT, RSA
2.     Photographer Antonio Serra, Tamboerskloof, CPT, RSA
3.     Photographer Massalo Araujo, Luanda- Angola
4.     Photographer Claire Thomson, Cape Town CBD RSA
5.     Photographer Dion Tromp, Constantia CPT, RSA

How long have you been modeling/enjoying photography?
I’ve only been doing it for a year, I started in Sept 2012 and try to get on to projects that are different to the “norm”.

Who are your favorite Pinup Models? Past or present inspiration?
I’m a huge Dolly Parton and Grace Jone fan, but in modern times I’m quite the fan of Lola Monroe, Nicolette Flanagan, Sabina Kelly (of course) and Angelique Noire. I don’t have any African/ local favorites as there aren’t any that’s why I look to foreign models for inspiration.

What is some of your favorite clothing lines? Favorite Designers?
I don’t have any specific brand or designer in mind, but anything off-key with unexpected twists like Ana Sousa. I always enjoy Dumond as well as Naughty Monkey’s collections. I mostly shop at second hand stores like 2nd Time Around in Sea Point, CPT in South Africa.

If you could shoot with any photographer, past or present, who would it be?
I don’t have much of a list. There are tonnes of photographers I would like to work with in Africa, but here the industry is pretty mainstream and not really a market for tattooed brown girls doing alternative. But I’m positive artist visions will grow.

What is your favorite color and why?
Pink.I’m not sure why, but every shade of the colour always catches my eye, but Ive restricted my adoration for the colour to only purchasing it in the nail polish form.

If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead who would it be?
Freddy Mercury. Both Fela and Femi Kuti. And Grace Jones, of course.

How did you get your model name?
I was chilling on Skype with a good friend and we were laughing and giggling about all the nonsense I commit myself to, in the name of art, and with every point he made about the modelling possibilities, social taboo barriers to break etc, I kept on saying “That sounds like an idea bru!” and “That’s an idea to consider”. When we came to naming the fictional character I said: “I’ll think of a few ideas for an idea of all these ideas”. I called him the following day and said that it should just be named “Anidea” because Anidea is the idea that all forms of modelling is possible and new ideas can erase the damning perception of Africa. We’re actually quite urban here. Well… most of the countries.

What is your favorite city to visit and why?
I’m a nomad. I enjoy all towns, villages and cities.

Do you have a favorite song or artist
Sublime- Santaria

and Jack Parow ft Francois Van Coke- Dans, Dans, Dans

Wantable REVIEW #2

It is no secret that I love makeup. I have tried various other subscription boxes, and after a couple of months, I ended up canceling, because I really don't want to spend month on samples. I mean, you can go to sephora and get free samples.

This is where wantable.com is sooo very different.  After taking a style quiz, you are sent a box of full sized products.  Name brand, full sized products.  Sign me up, right?!?!

I LOVED MY FEBRUARY BOX AND CANNOT WAIT UNTIL MARCH! COME ON MONTH, I AM READY FOR SPRING AND MY NEW BOX!

Sorma Under Foundation Makeup Enhancer
Don't get caught up with the name, this is a primer.  It is lightweight and goes on super smooth.  Pretty nice.  I would give it 4 stars.

Manna Sheer Glo Lotion
This is a liquid highlighter. It is soft pink and goes well with lots of skin tones.  It is a BIG bottle so a will be around for a long time.  A perfect addition to spring time makeup, if you like the dewey, shimmery look

Color Club Nail Polish Brrrrr Red
This is a wonderful deep dark red.  I would say it would be a better color suited for fall, but that doesn't mean I won't use it now!

Be a Bombshell Eye Base in Undercover Lover
This is a great item to use as an eye primer OR simply as a cream eyeshadow.  The color is a neutral shimmer tone, and gives a smooth surface to your eye lid. I love this color and this is the first time I have tried this brand.

DEX Crown Heights Lipstick ~ Crimson
Who doesn't love a new red lipstick? This formula is a satin lipstick, and though I usually only like matte lipsticks, this one is a great alternative to a dry, rough looking red lip.  Smooth coverage and a cooler tone palate.

18 When I got my 1st tattoo

Favorite/Featured tattoo is my black and grey dragon on my left forearm.  The only color in this tattoo is the dragon's blue eye.

This tattoo was done by Cooper at Keepsake Tattoos in Arlington Virginia.  The story behind it is that dragons were mythical creatures and the ones with blue eyes are said to be extremely rare.  I wanted something different than what everyone else was getting as far as dragons go.  I chose the location and have always loved black and grey work.

2) I have 8 other tattoos. A ghangi symbol for husband on the back of my neck in color.  A ghangi symbol for summer on my right bicep.  Above that tattoo I have a sun that is a little different and almost resembles the godsmack sun.  On my right forearm I have an ambigram for life and death.  When I look down at it I see it spelling out life, when everyone else looks they see it spelling out death.  On my left shoulder blade I have a lion ripping it's way out of my skin.  On my left bicep I have a white tiger head in some color.  On the outside of my right forearm I have 1 inch letters in cursave spelling out an exes name, biggest mistake I have made lol.  And lastly I have my initials that I drew up right above my left peck in red and black

3) I have plans for several more. I plan on turning my exes name on my forearm into a full chinese inspired theme with the biggest part being a koi swimming up my arm starting at my wrist.

4) My family and friends have been extremely receptive and positive to  my tattoos, other than the obvious one of getting an exes name.  I have never encountered any negativity involving my tattoos.  I firmly believe that just being tattooed doesnt and shouldn't include us into any stereotype.  A lot of the time we are misunderstood before anyone has the chance to get to know us.  We are people just like everyone else.

5) The most interesting experience I had because of tattoos actually came after a job interview for a supervisor position.  Of course I wore appropriate clothing in order to present myself in a better light, but after the interview I was asked if I had any tattoos.  I told the guy that I had several but am able to cover them up, he asked to see them.  After seeing them he said that they were pieces of art and needed to be displayed and that he would never make me cover them up for my position.

6) The only advice I can give for people thinking of getting a tattoo is do your research.  Research the shop, the artist, and look at porfolios or other works from the artist you will be getting tattooed by.  As tattoos have become more and  more popular there have been several fly by night shops open all over the country.  If you do your due deligence you can avoid getting tattooed from someone who doesn't use the proper safey requirements.

7) My least favorite part of any tattoo is the shading.  Unlike the rest of the tattoo, the shading for me is the most annoying.  The only thing I can say for those who are not tattooed is this, those of us who are tattooed are people just like everyone else.  A lot of the times our tattoos tell a story and we display them just as a galleria does pieces of art.  To us our tattoos are art and our bodies are the canvas.  Do not let someone elses preconceived notion or idea judge us.  Tattoos are not what they once were.  They are growing in popularity and more and more people are getting them.  Before you call us trashy or convicts do me one favor, get to know the person "behind" the ink.

4 Valentines Date Ideas

There are a lot of people out there that do not love or support Valentine's Day, due to the commercialism.   I, however, love Valentine's Day.  There is always someone in your life that you can show love to, and really it doesn't have to be on one selected day, but I still like the idea of a day of proclamation.

Here are 4 date ideas to celebrate with your significant other, or you best gal pal, or even your parent(s).

Annie Cherry a local KC performer
1.  Burlesque.  Why not celebrate the sexiest day of the year with a sexy show?  Many cities now have started supporting the wonderful underground movement of Burlesque.  You would be hard pressed to not find a group in your city.

2. First Date.  Do you remember your first date with your partner?  Why not play upon those early day by setting up your first date, as a part deux.  Now, my first date happen a while ago, and I do not even live in the same city that it happened in, but I can remember all the details!  That is part of the fun of this idea.

3. All Desserts.  A lot of couples venture outside their homes for dinner on Valentine's Day, but have you ever thought about going out only for desserts? I have an immense sweet tooth, and the idea of enjoying a flight of desserts!

4. Pizza & a Movie.  I love the heart shaped pizza that Papa Murphy's puts out every year for Valentine's Day, and if you are on a budget, then it something that is sweet and right up your alley.  Plus, who doesn't love pizza and a movie?

Name or Alias: June Storm
Age: 34
Occupation: Health care Professional/Entrepreneur
Age of first tattoo: 19
Favorite tattoo: Chest piece
Featured tattoo/location:
Artist/shop/location of feature tattoo: Keith Bezanson-Craving Ink

about your featured tattoo- is there a background story about why you chose it, or maybe a special meaning?
My belief has always been that one should truly think about a tattoo and meticulously plan it out before having one applied to their skin.  I began my history with tattoo's when I was only 19, and from there I continued my love affair with ink.  I started out with a tribal band on my arm, which I later added roses to in a half sleeve.  After the births of my children, I commemorated them with tattoos as well. I even got a tattoo which I share with my partner, he has one half and I have the other. But my most favorite tattoo's thus far would have to be my chest piece and my Gypsy.
My chest piece I got in memory of my Nanny, whom was and still is extremely special to me.  After an automobile accident and suffering some complications from it months later she passed unexpectedly.  She taught me so much through our time spent together.  And in memory of her I had some roses and a phrase tattooed across my chest : "Live the life you love, Love the life you live"  she loved life, every moment of it and she never took anything or anyone for granted.  I know she watches over me and is proud of all my accomplishments since she left this plain, and I cannot wait to be able to wrap my arms around her once more and give her the most enormous hug ever!
My Gypsy head is my most recent tattoo which I got as a symbol of my final transition/move into my own home, as I have recently purchased my first home.  Before this I was a "gypsy" per say, moving around a lot from place to place for many reasons, but mostly because I was just trying to find my place in the world.

2) Do you have any other tattoos? If so, what do you have and where?
I have a total of 13 and will be adding to my growing collection as of December 8.
I have my youngest daughters name on my left foot, a butterfly on my right ankle, gypsy head on my right thigh, celtic art and lily on my right side, fairy on my lower back, my other two daughter's and my son's name on my upper back, three stars behind my left ear, half sleeve of roses, cherry's and a quote on my right wrist, chest piece and one word on each hand.
3) Do you plan on getting more?
I will be getting a really amazing Zombie pin up on my left thigh next, done by a phenominal tattoo artist named Malibu Budd.  I am so excited to get this one, as it will commemorate my life since breaking into the world of pin up, and becoming Editor-In Chief of my publication Lush Kittens PinUp Magazine.  There have been so many up's and downs, tons of sleepless nights, and days where I feel like a walking zombie due to dedicating my time and efforts to something I love and want to be successful. It's all been worth it, and although I might feel like a zombie, being a pinup is something I wouldn't change for the world, I LOVE it!

4) How do your family and friends feel about your tattoo(s)? Have you run into any adversity or negativity because of them?
I have experienced both ends of the spectrum having my tattoo's.  My parents were not at all impressed with my first tattoo, but over the years they have come to accept that they are a part of me but  do not define me as a person.  In public, I do notice a lot of people staring, making strange faces or even pointing at me.  I do not let this bother me, as I have developed a pretty thick skin to ignorant people.  Sometimes I will even invite them to come look closer and ask questions about them, so as not to be offended by them. I especially hate when it's parents of young children who are teaching their kids to be discriminatory against people with ink....it actually really pisses me off.  I have raised my children to not be discriminatory or judgemental.  Just because someone has tattoo's, does not make them any less of a person, irresponsible, unapproachable or less intelligent.  There are doctors, nurses, scientists, brain surgeons, teachers, and people from all walks of life with tattoo's and generally, each person has a story behind their art, some significant meaning or a memory/moment attached to it.  In today's society body modifications are so evident all around us, it's really time that people started to change their opinions about tattoos to come to terms with the changing times.

5)What's the most interesting experience you've ever had in regards to your tattoos?
I have to say that the most interesting experience thus far has been when my youngest daughter was only 3.  It was an evening when we were settling down on the couch before bed time, and she turned to me and said "Momma, me colour you pretty?"
I looked at her funny and asked her to say it again. She did, and I laughed and said "ya, ok".  To my surprise she went to the drawer to grab some markers, then proceeded to colour my arms and legs in ink, and told me I looked pretty with more pictures!

6) Any advice for those interested in getting tattooed but haven't gotten one yet?
My advice is that when someone is planning a tattoo, you should always think it through.  Don't be spontaneous, or pick something silly you might regret years later.  Really plan it out and always be sure it has some significant meaning.  Do your research on artists and their shops.  Do your research on how to properly take care of your tattoo and be absolutely certain of placement on your body.  Be prepared for criticism from others, as you will likely experience some at some time or another, and finally, print out a photo of what you are planning to get and place it somewhere where you will see it constantly about a month or two prior to your session. If you get sick of seeing it or feel it's just not right, then you can avoid the regret later by stopping the tattoo before it happens.
7) What is your least favorite part of being tattooed? Do you have any stories/advice to people who are not tattooed?

My least favorite part of getting a tattoo, isn't actually the tattooing process it is in fact the after math.  Healing.   I hate the healing process, when your tattoo is scabbed up and extremely itchy. It has got to be the worst feeling ever, not to mention it's really not attractive at all to walk around with a flakey piece of art on your body lol.

Style Tip Sunday ~ Daytime Diamonds

Daytime Diamonds or daytime sparkle is what we are going to talk about today.  I love wearing sparkle in the, well anytime.  Most of us assume sparkle should be saved for special occasions, or black tie events.

Here is the biggest way to determine that the above idea should be considered a myth.  Are you married?  Do you wear your sparkly engagement ring every day? Well, hello there is your key.

The key to not looking crazy, is to make sure you you layer sparkle WITH basic.  Think about stacking dazzling bangles with a more low key watch on your wrist.

Here is another way to layer.  Add a bright necklace to a basic collared shirt and a cardigan.  It is the element of unexpected glamour that makes this so stunning.

Next time you are looking quite basic in jeans, a fitted t-shirt and some converse, add a pair of chandelier earrings, with you hair down, and let the sparkle be the surprise element to your outfit.
