Thankful Thursday (My Favorites)

Reflection, or at least the ability to reflect, is something I admire.  I like to look back on my life, my year, my week, or even my day.  There are certainly more regrets in that reflection that I would rather not have.  I honestly think that my regrets are my driving force, though.  I have more than I would like to admit to myself, but it is what motivates me.

I think you can learn so much about yourself when you really look, and take inventory, of everything life has given you.  Yes, I didn't get to go to medical school as planned, and that is a regret. I, however, did meet my husband during that time.  I haven't traveled as much as I would love to, but I have a deep root in my home town.

It is so easy to get caught up in what could have been, that you miss out on what is right now.  I am trying my best to positively reflect and hope that you do to!

Age: 25

Occupation: Nursing/Paramedic Student

Where are you from: I am originally from Wichita, KS but I have been living in the Kansas City, MO area for 3 years now.

Favorite photographer to work with: So for, Vixen Pin-Up Photography. I am new to the Pin-Up Modeling scene and when I met with Nikki and Candy they were so accommodating. They made me feel comfortable and right at home! Not to mention brought out the best in me.

Artist/Photographer/location of featured photo(s) Vixen Pin-Up Photography studio/FlawlessMafia Photography.

Tell me about your featured photo(s). When were they taken? Why are they your favorite? My pictures in the suit and my dress were taken in the beginning of this month! (September) I have always been told that I am photogenic and I believe that it was captured through these photos. I was really pleased with them! My other photos we taken in the West Bottoms in downtown Kansas City and also my first photo shoot of my aspiring modeling career.

How long have you been modeling/enjoying photography? This is my first year, I have always wanted to be an actress/model. And this year is the year I finally decided I was going to pursue my dreams! I remember when I was 16, I was selected to go to Chicago for a size 10 and up casting call after making the first round of auditions in Wichita. I had never done anything like that except for theater. I put everything I had into it! Essence magazine was looking at me. I made it to the last round, and got cut. I was crushed. Never pursued modeling again. Until now, and I am determined  :) The Plus-Size Modeling world is much more than it used to be. And that EXCITES me!

Who are your favorite Pinup Models? Past or present inspiration? I'd say Betty Boop, simply because I have always loved her since I was a child. I think every little girl wanted to be Betty Boop at one point in time.

What is some of your favorite clothing lines? Favorite Designers? I honestly don't have a favorite designer. I'm not really BIG on designers. If I see something I like and it looks good on me, I am going to buy it! It doesn't matter to me where it came from or what name is on it. I like putting things together and making it unique.

If you could shoot with any photographer, past or present, who would it be? I have seen and heard really great things about Roy Varga. I'd be delighted to work with him. I hope I can catch him next time he's in Kansas City.

What is your favorite color and why? Red, it is a deep passionate color. Red is the color of the first Chakra the "root" Chakra. Which is the foundation of the physical body. It stimulates vital forces throughout our body and assists in keeping us grounded to the earth.

If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead who would it be? I'd say the President of the United States. Simply because i'd like to pick his brain!

How did you get your model name? I'm light with red hairs... get it?....... "MaryJane"

Shoesday Tuesday

I am DYING over these Louboutins.  These are amazing and would be stunning for any black tie event!  Now, where is that money tree?

Stay Sweet,

Seasons change, and so do I

I decided it would be fun to document the tree in my front yard, changing for the seasons.  The off thing is our tree is the last one in our entire neighborhood to change.  I think it is because I will it to hold out.  Trees that change too early loose their leaves too soon and I love to enjoy the colors of fall.

It is already into the very end of October and this is all the change that has happened so far.  I can't wait  until this tree bursts into a color show of fiery reds, almost as if it is on fire.

How I have celebrated the season so far

So far this fall I have decorated my house and went to the Rennasaince Faire with my bestie, Devyn.  I still am striving to go to the pumpkin patch, pick some apples, makes smores in my fire pit, amongst a few other things.

I have all my halloween items out, and will have to get a picture!  We are attending a Halloween Party tomorrow night, and I can't wait to share my costume.  It is super silly and just something I have wanted to be for about 8 months or so.

Do you have any fall traditions that you like to do with friends or family?

Stay Sweet,

Occupation:Police Dispatcher

Where are you from: Originally Holt a small town in the country where there's more livestock than people, but nowadays home is Kansas City Mo the Paris of the Plains

Favorite photographer to work with: Nikki Moreno-Whipple of Vixen Pin Up Photography

Artist/Photographer/location of featured photo(s):listed at bottom
How long have you been modeling/enjoying photography? I've always enjoyed photography and took classes in high school for it, but as for being on the opposite side of the camera in pictures I've only been doing it since July 2012.

Who are your favorite Pinup Models? Past or present inspiration? I actually love a ton of past pinup models from Jean Harlow to Rita Hayworth to Mae West to Marilyn Monroe and Bettie Page I think they each brought their own beauty to the Pin Up world and I like to look towards all the past pinups for inspiration. My current day favorite would have to be Dita Von Teese, I think she has such a beautiful elegance about her as well as good head on her shoulders and she oooozes classic pinup beauty to me.

What is some of your favorite clothing lines? Favorite Designers? I'm a fan of several clothinglines but my top three would probably be Hell Bunny, Sourpuss, and Bettie Page Clothing. My favorite designer is currently Tatyana with Bettie Page clothing. I think she designs classic and versatile pieces for the line which are excellent wardrobe staple pieces.

If you could shoot with any photographer, past or present, who would it be? I would love to shoot with Annie Liebovitz. I've been a huge fan of her pictures for a long time and she has such a beautiful creative element to her shots.

What is your favorite color and why? I actually have 4 favorite colors Pink, Purple, Blue, and Black. Blue and Purple have been my favorite colors since childhood and I felt they were neutral in a way to like (I used to hate pink cuz I was adamant about not being considered too girly after all I wanted my gamer guy friends to take me serious). Then in my teens I added black to the mix because I really liked how the 3 colors looked together and how black seemed to go with everything and during those years it was a staple color in my wardrobe. And after high school I finally succumbed to my girlie side and added in pink and it became another wardrobe staple.

If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead who would it be? I'd love to have a dinner with Johnny Depp, Tim Burton, and Helena Bonham Carter. I find them to be highly fascinating people and I'm a huge fan of their work and would love to converse with them to find out more about them. I absolutely love how they all embrace their unique quirkiness and tackle projects that may not become mainstream but for the simply for the artistic fun factor.

How did you get your model name? It came about from a couple of factors. One is I've always gone by Nikki since I was itty bitty so I wanted to keep that as part of my persona. The other factor is 90% of the time when people find out I go by Nikki they start singing "Darling Nikki" to me (which is also a favorite song of mine). So when choosing my persona Darlin Nikki seemed like a perfect fit with my personality, being able to keep my name, as well as having a song that makes remembering it easy :)

What is your favorite city to visit and why? I love to visit Las Vegas and Los Angeles and would actually love to move out there! I love Las Vegas cuz there's always something to do, the people watching is amazing, and it's just a very exciting city. Los Angeles is also great for people watching (one of my favorite pastimes) and there's so much history and cultural richness to the city it just leaves you in awe. And there's definitely no lack of something to do or see in the city.

Do you have a favorite song or artist? My favorite artist and songs vary with my mood. My music collection is very eclectic, but currently I've been stuck on Lana Del Ray and The Great Gatsby soundtrack they've been on repeat on my iPod for at least 2 months (with lil breaks of other music in there as well)

Shoesday Tuesday

Kate Spade can literally do no wrong.  These shoes would be the perfect thing for christmas parties or the ring in the new year!  I love the nude color, with a hint of sparkle, and the unexpected fun of marabou feathers!

Do you have a favorite shoe designer?

Fun with Friends!

Wednesday evening, I got to hang with my best gal pal, Devyn at the swanky new launch of Daicy//Figueiredo.  Joey and Adam launched their beauty and photography business with some of the most fabulous people in Kansas City, not to mention, they know how to throw a party!

The evening was full of fantastic food, wonderful drinks, swag bags and fab people!  I am so glad I was invited and so glad that I went.

Please be sure to check out their website as well as find them on Facebook, twitter, and instagram
