Sweetness Overload Currently

Watching: Downton Abbey and Call the Midwife.  PBS is killing it right now with TV shows.  I am absolutely in love with downton abbey, and awaiting when I can view season 3, and just started watching Call the Midwife.  Have you watched any of these shows?

Thinking about: I seriously cannot wait for the weather to get warm enough to spend some time outside!  I love planting and cultivating my yard, and am going to get to planning some spring and summer BBQ's.  One of my favorite thing to do is host parties, and 2013 is going to be the spring/summer of Haus of Kittens Parties! (Haus of Kittens is what I call my house, even though there are no cats that live here)

Reading: Right now, I am about the finish up "Heart of the Matter" by Emily Giffin.  Have you ever read any of her books? The series, which are not tied to each other, are Something Borrowed, Something Blue, Baby Proof, Love the one your with, Heart of the Matter, and Where We Belong.  They are really good 'light' reads, as in a good pool side read, or something fun and quick to read, with out having to exercise a lot of thought.  Sometimes is it fun to just read to escape your current thoughts, and her books are always a good read for me.

Looking forward to:  My dad will be in town and we will be spending time with Tim's family for Easter dinner.  That is always fun! I still need to go shopping for our nephew's easter basket too.

Making me happy:  Hot tea, comfortable bedding and cold medicine.  I am a little under the weather, and simple things are what make me happy for the moment.

Ashlie Longo // Facebook // Business Facebook

Age: 27

Self Employed Skin Care Therapist and Makeup Artist. Lead Singer for A band called Bombshell Academy.

Where are you from:
Born In Arizona, I spent my youth back and forth between Southern California and Salt Lake City. I currently Reside In Salt Lake City.

Favorite photographer to work with:
Roy Varga!

Artist/Photographer/location of featured photo(s)
Roy Varga shot these at a Hot Rod shop located in Salt Lake City.  MUA was done by the amazing  Ashley Sweers, and Portia Lynn Dahl

Tell me about your featured photo(s). When were they taken? Why are they your favorite?
We took them in May of 2012, at
thunderstruck Hot Rod and Custom Cycle in Salt Lake City. We had a few friends there to help with the styling and kind of just put it together as we went!

How long have you been modeling/enjoying photography?
I have always liked to have my picture taken but this was my first pin up shoot and now,  I am kind of obsessed. I want girls to feel happy and confident in their bodies, because its the only one they have! Doing pin up pictures are a great way to feel Gorgeous and have something to last for years, not to mention maybe make a paycheck or two.

Who are your favorite Pinup Models? Past or present inspiration?
I don't think I have an actual Favorite, as far as a specific person goes. When I was little I remember liking the cartoon pinup models that you would see in the paintings for advertisements, anything retro. I love the full bodied, and old school looks that are completely comfortable for everyday wear. Marlyn Monroe was always amazing, the cat eye - super sexy lip is what it is all about!

What is some of your favorite clothing lines? Favorite Designers?
Bettie Page makes some great sweaters, you can find some amazing items and deals on ebay.  L.A.M.B has always been a classic favorite. I feel like I have a broad spectrum when it comes to fashion phasing different looks in and out. I dont think I worry too much about who the specific designer is as long as the outfit is amazing!

If you could shoot with any photographer, past or present, who would it be?....
That is a good question!!

What is your favorite color and why?
Im obsessed with color. If I had to pick one I might die. But I can tell you what color I most dislike. .   Red. Why? Besides lipstick, I have no love for this color, it just seems so . . Aggressive. ..  unless you add glitter.

If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead who would it be?
Gwen Stefani!!

How did you get your model name?
I was born this way!

Makeout Monday ~ Things I love this week

Sweet Sundays

Even though there is a foot of snow on the ground in Kansas City, again, I have decided to take this time to start my spring cleaning routine.  These are the things that I like to do when the weather starts to warm, and spring is a feeling, that is right around the corner. (Go home snow!)

We can start with easy things, that you can do whether it is warm out, or you still have snow on the ground!

Each Spring/Fall I clean out my medicine cabinet, and make sure that I have discarded of expired medications, taken expired prescriptions to the pharmacy to be disposed of, and make a new list of what is needed to keep the medicine box current for the season.  Nothing is worse than getting sick, and instead of going to your medicine cabinet for relief, having to drive to the store to purchase it.

Here is a list of stuff that should be housed in every one's medicine "area". Use your own discretion here.  I don't believe this to be a finite list, but a good one to get you started and useful enough to make sure you have things on hand in case of an emergency.
  • An assortment of Band-Aids. Sizes, colors, etc...
  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Rubbing Alcohol
  • Cough Drops
  • Throat spray for sore throats
  • Calamine Lotion
  • Pepto Bismal
  • Tums
  • Allergy Relief (Claritin, Allegra)
  • Muncinex
  • Day-Quil and Night Quil
  • Day time and Night time cold relief
  • Neosporin or AD Ointment
  • Hydrocortosone Cream
  • Tylenol
  • Excedrin
  • Ibuprofen or Aleive
  • Thermometer
  • Heating Pad
  • Muscle Wraps
  • Asper-cream of Ben Gay Muscle Rub
This is not the be all, end all list, but a good start.  If you have children in your home, you will want to adapt this list to include children's over the counter medication.  The same with seasonal issue, such a flu items, during the fall and winter when people are more susceptible to those types of illness.

I hope this helps guide you into a direction of mending or adding to your medicine cabinet.  Remember, especially in homes with young adults, drug use can start in the medicine cabinets at home, so please make sure to account for all prescription medications and make sure to update or dispose of outdated or unused portions of prescription drugs.

Here is a simple list to get your spring cleaning started

  • Wash your windows inside and outside. The winter can be just as harsh on windows as the summer.
  • Before you bring out your patio furniture and children’s outdoor toys, wash them off. Inspect all cushions and see if new ones are in order.
  • Check the caulk, seals and weather stripping around all windows and doors and repair as needed. Wipe down window wells and ledges. Hose and wipe down exterior doors.
  • Pull out the garden hoses. If you have an in-ground sprinkler system, check to make sure the winter didn't damage it
  • Check gutters and downspouts and clear out debris.
  • Clean out your garage and hose out all the winter dirt and grime.
  • If there are any areas on outside trim, deck, etc to paint use this time to paint it and freshen up the exterior of your house.
  • Seed lawn and cover with peat moss to ensure new growth.  Don't forget to water daily!
  • If the weather has already turned warmer, and you know you will be using your air conditioner soon, it is time to clean it out and get it ready for the soon to be soaring temp.
  • Plant summer bulbs.  Some of my favorites are iris, day lilies, calla lilies and cannas.  Your summer garden will thank you for it!
Inside the House
  • Have your fireplace and chimney cleaned and ready to be put away until next season
  • Change your furnace filters for cleaner air and a more efficient heating system.
  • Spring is a good time to replace batteries in your smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors and other home safety devices.
  • Get your beds ready for a spring! Spring is also a good time to do twice-annual mattress turns. Flip your mattress this spring and next fall, turn it end-to-end. Launder or dry clean all bedding you don’t do every week, such as mattress pads, pillows, blankets, bed skirts and bedspreads.
  • Schedule a professional carpet cleaning or rent a carpet cleaner and do it yourself.
  • Clean out your kitchen cupboards and pantry, paying particular attention to baking supplies, pans and equipment that you’ll need for holiday baking.
  • Pull your refrigerator, clothes washer and dryer out from the wall and clean behind them (and retrieve any long lost socks!). Brush dust off of refrigerator coils and use a narrow vacuum hose attachment to clean inside the lint catcher of your dryer.
That last thing I like to do is purchase new fall scented candles. I tend to steer towards soy candles in airy, breezy scents like rain, flowers, or every just really clean scents!

Nearly Famous Pinup Wednesday ~ Vivian Vega

Vivian Vega // Facebook  // Model Mayhem

Age: 23

Where are you from: Houston Texas

Favorite photographer to work with: I would have to say Mitzi from Mitzi & Co. Photography. She really is a very sweet and talented lady! I really have enjoyed
everyone I have worked with but she was one of the photographers I worked with in the beginning. She made me feel confident about what I was doing and has helped me with many things when she could have easily passed those opportunities along
to someone else.

Artist/Photographer/location of featured photo(s) First photo: Mitzi&Co. in San Dimas California. Second: Timeless Photoworks in Houston Texas. Third: JandRStudios in Houston Texas.

Tell me about your featured photo(s). When were they taken? Why are they your favorite? The one with the pink background was taken about two years ago and it has become a favorite because that was the first time I had the chance to model for a clothing company! The black and white photo was taken earlier this year and I love it because I finally had the classic black and white photos taken in a way that was acurate to the older photos. My third photo was also taken earlier this year and I was so happy with the final image that I added it to my portfolio. It's actually a recreation of Derek Santiago image of Bettie Page titled "Queen of the Pin-Ups"

How long have you been modeling/enjoying photography? I have been modeling since January 2009. I started to enjoy modern pinup photography about a year
before I started modeling that was when I discovered the modern pin up photography
world that I enjoy so much today.

Who are your favorite Pinup Models? Past or present inspiration? I would have to say Bettie Page because she always seemed so happy and confident in herself.

What is some of your favorite clothing lines? Favorite Designers? My top three are Pinup Girl Clothing, Bettie Page Clothing, and Heartbreaker Fashion. Sorry I couldn't pick just one!

If you could shoot with any photographer, past or present, who would it be? It would have to be Bunny Yeager!

What is your favorite color and why? Another hard one for me I usually gravitate towards red, black, white, and gray

If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead who would it be? I would have to say Laura Byrnes from Pinup Girl Clothing. I think the story and progress that her company has made is amazing.

How did you get your model name? I actually have always liked names that started with the letter V and I just picked two names that sounded like they worked together.

Influenster and Vox Box Sugar n' Spice

I am a part of a very cool company called Influenster, and was lucky enough to get a box full of goodies to try and tell you about!  The great part is, you can sign up for this company too, and get your own VOX BOX full of free goodies to try!

Here is my list of cool stuff I received and what I think about all of it!

Vaseline Spray and Go Moisturizer  $7.99
I am always a little skeptical about "spray" products. They are more pricey than the traditional 'rub' on products, and really, do they improve upon anything?  In one case, sunscreen, they do.  I liked this product, and I love Vaseline, but really, I would prefer my lotion to be the pump, or cream kind, where I can rub it in.  Plus when dispensing it into your hand, your hands get the moisture they need too.
My advice: PASS

Nectresse: $6.99
Another product line from my favorite sweetener, Splenda.  I liked this product.  I am usually one to reach for Stevia, but if this were available, I would use it too.  I took the big box that was sent to me, to my work to let others try it too!
My advice: TRY

Dickinson's Original Witch Hazel Towelettes $5.99
This product is not something that I would have picked up on my own, so I am glad I got to try it!  Witch Hazel is an excellent toner, and toning is usually the one step in skin care that people think they can skip.  The product made my skin feel soft and even.
My advice: TRY

Colgate Optic White Regimen: $9.99
Since I work in the dental field, white teeth are on of the first things I notice.  This get line from colgate is one that I would recommend if you are not wanting to dole out $300 + for professional whitening.
My advice: TRY

BelVita Breakfast Biscuits: $3.69
This product has been one of my go to breakfast items when I am on the run.  It doesn't seem like 4 little cookies could fill you up, but they do!
My Advice: TRY

Stay Sweet,
"I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes."

Nearly Famous Pinup Wednesday ~ Ginger Snaps

Miss Ginger Snap // Facebook // Pinups Against Cancer

Age: 22

Occupation: Full-time Culinary Student

Where are you from: Bremerton, WA

Favorite photographer to work with: Desmona Lively Photography (www.facebook.com/Desmona-Lively-Photography), Rosewood Photography (www.rosewoodphotography.net)

Artist/Photographer/location of featured photo(s): The first two are from Rosewood Photography in Marysville, WA. The next two are from Desmona Lively Photography in Silverdale, WA. The final image is from Sevenseven Photography in Lacey, WA (www.sevensevenphotography.com). I have been so lucky to get to work with these amazingly talented people, and I hope this is just the beginning of our professional relationships.

How long have you been modeling/enjoying photography?: I just started this year, but I feel like it's been my whole life at this point.

Who are your favorite Pinup Models? Past or present inspiration?: I absolutely love Lucille Ball. Something about being funny and gorgeous at the same time is just so inspiring. I am also very inspired by modern pinups The Vintage Doll and Bianca Bombshell. They represent the wide spectrum of the pinup world.

What is some of your favorite clothing lines? Favorite Designers?: I adore Collectif clothing. They combine soft and pretty with funky in a way that is just perfect. Bettie Page Clothing is another one of my favorites. I love being able to find cute clothes that suit photoshoots as well as work.

If you could shoot with any photographer, past or present, who would it be?: The top of my list is actually a painter, not a photographer. I would have loved to model for Gil Elvgren. He was at the forefront of this artform, and I can't even imagine being on of the pioneers for women.

What is your favorite color and why?: My favorite color is green. I love it because it is so versatile. It can mean an entire movement to better the Earth, or be just a bright color to herald spring after the dreary hues of winter.

If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead who would it be?: It's down to two people. The first is alive, Alton Brown from Food Network. He, almost as much as my mother, inspired me to cook and attend school to make my passion my career. The second is unfortunately no longer with us, but I would have given my left foot for dinner with Julia Child. She would have had to cook, of course. The woman reinvented the way Americans cooked!

How did you get your model name?: My husband has been calling me Ginger since the day we started dating. It started as a way to make fun of me after that South Park episode, but quickly grew into a term of endearment. The "Snap" part of my name came from my love of baking. Ginger snaps are super yummy and one of my favorite cookies to make.
