Teal and leopard is one of my favorite combinations.  I love it together.  And speaking of loving things, can we just talk about these sunnies?  They are wood! They are gorgeous! They are a throw back shape to days gone by, and I adore them!

April Sweetness Overload

Spring is the reminder of eternal renewal.  April, in the midwest, can be a confusing month, in terms of weather, and it did not fail.  I love that the flowers start to bloom, baby animals are a-plenty, and summer is just around the bend!

April Highlights
-Will be featured in the upcoming issue of Atomic Bombshells Magazine, as writer and model!
-Showcased to DIY Projects: Door Photo Frame, Sunglasses Cabinet
-Celebrated the Mister's 32nd birthday!
-Fell head over heels, in love with, Lana Del Ray. (cross off the NY Resolutions)
-Became a Modified Doll

April Book ~ The Hunger Games Trilogy
I burned through the books in no time. Such a crazy subject, you know, kids killing kids, but I loved the fact that the female heroine was not dependent on a male character to save her, or to make her who she is! Finally, a girl who could fill in the gap Hermione left for me.  I can't wait to see if the movies live up to the book.

My weekend, is going to consist of girl time!  I am working at Retro Vixen tomorrow, so stop in and see me, along with all the new goodies that Melissa has put out!

Additionally, I will be hosting a bouquet making party for my friend Megan.  We will be tackling how to make bouquets for each of her bridesmaids.  We are each doing something a little different.  I am going to make mine out of different shades of cream doilies.  I know it is going to be super cute! I have posted some photos of inspiration.  I think it is going to be fun and cute to make!!

Have a good weekend!

Sweet Taste of Freedom ~ Silver Screen Salon

Owner Travis Crall

Where are you from?

I grew up in a town 30 miles east of Kansas City called Oak Grove, now I reside in Independence, MO.

How did you get your store/business started?

I got started in the hair industry 8 years ago. I worked in Lees Summit for the first six years and have been in the Crossroads for a year and a half. I moved my business downtown with the thoughts of opening my own salon. I fell in love with the Crossroads and through some great luck I was able to open Silver Screen Salon! I had a client Paul Penticuff who decided that he liked the business model of opening a salon and we got along really well so he made it financially possible.

What inspires you?

There are so many inspirations in my life where to start.
First I love watching other passionate people create, I will be the first to attend any industry educational events, or at home just watching the food network watching a chef create a dish.
I am also very inspired by geometric lines, architecture and nature.

How long have you been open and what is some of your favorite items?

I have been open for One month! We have hired 4 amazing artists and my wife is a stylist and our manager! We carry Loreal Professionnel products and haircolor. Don't let the Loreal name throw you off, Loreal Professionnel is not the same stuff you can get a your local dugstore. Loreal Professionnel is the worlds most elite professional hair product. I am an educator for Loreal Professionnel and am very passionate about the products that we carry! Prescribing product is a service that we pride ourselves on at Silver Screen Salon!

What celebrity would you most like have praise your store/product(s)?

I would have to say for those of us that know Tabitha I would love for her to see Silver Screen in action and give her approval. But A list celebrity that I would love to give us props would be Johnny Depp or Zooey Deschanel, I love their style!

If you had to use only one word to describe yourself, what would it be?
Creativity

What is your biggest pet peeve?

Gum chewing.

What are your favorite websites?

Behindthechair.com, scissorboy.com, FB, yelp, chroniclesofasweettooth.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

I was a 2time Missouri State wrestling champion, I went to college on a full ride football scholarship.

Dress: Sew She Said
Shoes: Shoe Dazzle

Everything about this dress scream tea party to me.  It is a gorgeous nude/pink color.  That paired with a collar and full skirt, just aches for girl time that would consist of cake, tea, small crustless sandwiches, and plenty of gossip.  The super cute bow just topped off the girly-ness of this dress!

*side note Mr. and I busted the zipper on the dress, trying to zip it.  I will have to get it fixed, but it wasn't zipped the photos. ha ha ha*

Nearly Famous ~ Pinup Wednesday!

// Dee Dee Desire // Website // Facebook // Twitter //

Age: 31

Occupation: Database Production Analyst (I’m a computer nerd)

Where are you from: Boston, MA

Favorite photographer to work with:  I’ve been very lucky to have worked with amazing photographers and have loved everyone.  I definitely always have a great time with Ama Lea, she is a great friend and we’ve been shooting together for years.  Most of those shoots involve sleepovers and then deciding late at night that we have a great idea and just going for it at 6am.  She lives in LA now so we don’t get to shoot together as much but when we do it’s a great time.

Photographer/Hair/MUA: Mark Anthony Lacy

Location: Manhattan, NYC

Tell me about your featured photo(s). When were they taken? Why are they your favorite?
I took a few years off from shooting and really just laid low, I had an amazing little boy 2 years ago so I wasn’t really finding the time to shoot.  I went through what most women go through after having my son where I was just really uncomfortable with my body and how different it was and I just honestly didn’t feel attractive.  I knew that I need a boost to my confidence and that I need to take some time for myself so I decided in March that the perfect way to cheer myself up would be by doing a shoot.  I had always admired Mark Lacy’s work but never had the chance to work with him so I felt that he would be the perfect person to shoot with to get me out of my little rut.

Mark was perfect.  I was honest with him about how I felt and let him know I was a bit rusty and he was amazing.  He does all the hair and makeup so it really is an intimate shoot where you really get to know the photographer.  We talked about movies, vintage finds, goodwill shopping, music, and anything else you could think about.  I couldn’t have been more comfortable – especially for my first shoot in 2 and a half years.

I’m proud of how the pictures came out and they have helped inspire me to continue shooting.

How long have you been modeling/enjoying photography? I started doing this back in 2005 but I did take a few years off so I feel like I’m starting over but I wouldn’t be doing it if I didn’t love it.  I just set up my website and facebook page and I’m hoping to have new pictures for both soon.

Who are your favorite Pinup Models? Past or present inspiration?  There is of course the ultimate Bettie Page but my inspiration was really with the Pin Up Nose Art on fighter planes from World War II.  I think it was actually the movie Memphis Belle when I was 10 where I became aware of the Nose Art and that lead to my fascination with Pin Ups and fighter planes….mostly Pin Ups J

What is some of your favorite clothing lines? Favorite Designers?  For the Pin Up girl in me I really love Mode Merr.  The quality of the clothes and the style of dresses are just perfect.  If I was a rich girl and had fancy places to go then I would have to say Alexander McQueen, but I have to settle for just looking at the pictures in the magazines for that one.  Luckily I can afford Mode Merr.

If you could shoot with any photographer, who would it be?  I’m very lucky to have worked with some of the best Pin-Up photographers – Ama Lea, Mark Lacy, Viva Van Story, Roy Varga, Marco Patino – and had a great time shooting with everyone.  If I had to pick photographers that I haven’t worked with yet then I would have to say Shannon Brooke and Jason Holmes – hopefully I can make it out to the west coast soon!

Stay Sweet,
Kem

10 Things I love about you

  1. You are so amazing at drawing. Like, really really good!
  2. It is really kind of fun to have a sister that is 20 years younger.  I know I don't seem very cool, or much like a sister to you now (more like an aunt, I think) but hopefully someday you will see that I am cool :)
  3. I love that you like things that are more mature than your age.  Tornadoes, check.  Big Foot, check.
  4. Keep writing stories!
  5. Don't grow up too fast!  Stay young and have fun!
  6. Your love of butter. Paula Dean would be so proud.
  7. I love to hear your story of Zio's and how they have the best spaghetti in town.
  8. Your love of animals.  I love them too!  Maybe one day we can just surround ourselves with animals!  Or you can just come visit me and we will go to the zoo.
  9. Your hatred of jeans. I promise one day, you will love jeans, and then never look back.
  10. You are so animated and tell the best stories! I sometimes just like to copy faces that I have seen you make :)
Summer, I know we live a long ways apart, but you make me laugh all the time! I can't wait for you to come see me soon!

Kem

Dress: Sew She Said
Shoes: Shoe Dazzle

I love this dress. I loved it the moment I got it.  With me being a July birthday, I think red, white and blue are a favorite of mine.  The hair flower was hand made, and it couldn't be more perfect for a patriotic look, or something sweet to wear to a luau.
