A Peek into My Life

If I could live anywhere, I think I would want to return to my heritage.  I have always wanted to visit England, and I know, that some day I am destined to.

I have already written about my love of a good cloudy day, or a rainy day inspiration.  I love the history that the homeland holds.

My grandparents actually lived in England, while my grandfather was in the service.  I love hearing about where they lived and how things we similar, but different from the US

I am throughly enjoying that the summer 2012 Olympics are being held there, and am in awe of getting to see the country side.

Being able to see and be in the same place(s) of some of the greatest writers in history would be amazing and living where true royalty resides would be incredible.

God save the Queen.

Sweet Nothings for the Weekend

We have a Winner! Congrats Kris.

This weekend is all about planning.  I am planning a fun photo shoot.  I am planning on watching the Olympics.  I am planning of going to a pool party.

What are your plans this weekend?

Stay Sweet,

  • Watching: Gossip Girl.  I am officially obsessed and I am trying to get through the seasons, so I can not waste any time during the olympics.  The summer olympics are my favorite thing to watch, and really who doesn't love it?
  • Working On: august is going to be my vegan month. I am trying to work up the courage to  jump into it without complaining.  Last year, all I could think about was cheese pizza, for a whole month, and it drove me crazy, so this year, I am going to go forth with motivation and leave cheese in the past.
  • Thinking About: joining a yoga class.  I have been doing yoga with you tube, but I really crave being in a class.  There is a wonderful studio in the same shopping district as my day job, and I think I am going to join for a month and see how it goes.  Yoga really works for me, helps me release anxiety, it is great exercise, and I enjoy the solitude.
  • Anticipating: a really good summer time thunderstorm.  There has been no rain in kansas city, and I am really just wanting to curl up with a good book, a cup of tea, and listen to the rain.  I find that dreary days are instant inspiration for me.  Maybe I should move to portland/seattle
  • Eating:  I have been eating frozen yogurt like it is going out of style.  Besides it so hot, so that is my excuse.  The heat. My gawd the heat.
  • Wishing: the summer would come to an end already.  I am ready for sweaters, boots, tights, and overcoats.  Oh and hot cocoa!

Purse & Clutch Giveaway! Sponsor Highlight!

A very sweet sponsor of mine wanted to do a giveaway, and I could not be more THRILLED to introduce you all to Purse & Clutch!

This is a great company with an even greater heart! How can that be, you ask?  Well read more about it!

The mission of Purse & Clutch is to partner with reputable organizations who employ artisans from developing economies to create reliable, dignified, living wage jobs for those in need. Our vision is to connect consumers with sustainable alternatives to their current purchases in order to create a new normal of fair compensation - especially for those with otherwise limited opportunities to work.

All of the wholesale companies we choose to work with have a vision to connect the poor of their developing region with Western markets. We look for companies who pay a fair, living wage for their particular region and who are committed to creating a workplace that ensures no child labor or forced labor. We carefully screen our wholesalers to ensure they are committed to non discrimination, to environmental sustainability, and to favorable work conditions. Together, we work with existing skill sets in local economies, instead of changing cultural traditions or simply giving handouts, which encourages independence from outside aid that could only be a temporary source of help.

We are currently purchasing our products from JOYN (Northern India),  Handmade Expressions (multiple rural villages throughout India), and are collaborating on product designs for El Transito Centro de Artes (Nicaragua). We are excited to expand our wholesalers by purchasing from Craftwork Cambodia in the fall and have begun discussions with a contact in rural Colombia.

Now that you are so in love with this company, right(?), they are giving YOU a chance to win a Classic Clutch of your choice! ($24.50 value)

The leaves change, there are apple orchards, pumpkin patches, hay rides and so many reason to be outside! I can't wait!  I am also thinking about re-joining a yoga class.  I love yoga, and being in a class room is good for me.

    Sweet Bar Cart DIY

I am a bit of a collector.  I like to collect tea pots, clothing, vintage treasures and more recently, vintage glass ware.  I have inherited quite a bit of carnival glass, from my Grandmother, and other pieces that have family history, but my new favorite is vintage barware.

My Gramma Wetherington gifted me a set of glass decanters that were my great, great, great grandfathers and they are beautiful.  Carved, Cut glass and in excellent condition.  Along the way I have picked up other pieces at estate sales, antique stores and received some as gifts.

This growing collection inspired me to set up a bar cart.  One a place to openly store my favorite things, and Two, make something that is functional as well as collective!

I salvaged the cart from an antique store, and left all the "patina" on it.  Sometimes, I like to clean things up for a modern edge, but this time, I just cleaned it and left as is.

Next, I found the vintage stainless steel ice bucket on an antique expedition and then pulled out all my bar ware.

I top it off with a wooden serving tray, that I picked up from Target.

The wine rack was an auction find and I display my red wines in it.  All in all, I am super excited with how it turned out!

Tips for creating your own personal Bar Cart:
    • Know how big of a cart you are looking for.  Don't count out tea service carts, or even shelves when you are looking
    • Make sure there is enough room for glass ware as well as your alcohol.
    • Use modern pieces to accentuate the vintage for a well rounded look

Tell me about your featured photo(s). When were they taken? Why are they your favorite?
The TASK Photography photos were taken on location at Barstow Station. The location is stunning and gave fabulous Backgrounds.
These are some of my favorite photos because they are traditional Pinup style images, very authentic to the time.

The Bre Nixon Photos were taken at the Bre Nixon Studio on Fort Irwin. These are my favorite beauty shots that have been taken of me.
The images are fresh and capture cheesecake pinup.
How long have you been modeling/enjoying photography? I have been modelling since I was a few months old. My mom was a beauty queen and naturally introduced myself and both my siblings into the modelling world from an early age. I stopped modelling when I was in my mid teenage years to concentrate on my schooling. I started pinup modelling around 9 months ago and have loved every bit of it. I've always wanted to enter the pinup modelling genre as I dress in the 1950's style everyday, so after a large weight loss towards the end of last year I decided it was time to pick up where I left off.

Who are your favorite Pinup Models? Past or present inspiration? My favorite modern day pinup is Doris Mayday. I think is stunning in so many ways. I have had the opportunity to speak with her a few times and what a lovely lady. Here look is to true to the time era and its awesome to see another lady live the 50's lifestyle on a daily basis. I think she is a wonderful advocate for curvy females and I think her proportions are perfect for pinup modelling. I'm going to be shockingly obvious at say my favorite past time pinup model is of course Marilyn Monroe. Although an obvious choice she paved the way for bombshells of the past. Her images are timeless and will always be an inspiration to me. When I look at her, I see the epitome of poise, class and sophistication. Every quality I find endearing in a lady. a

What is some of your favorite clothing lines? Favorite Designers? I love Pinup Girl Clothing and of course Bettie Page Clothing. Their collections are very well made and last for years. The designs are authentic and showcase the best of by gone fashions.

If you could shoot with any photographer, who would it be? Without a doubt, Michael Malak in his Wings of Angels Series. His images are just WOW! When I look at them, they take your breath away. A pinup model has never been showcased better than in his images. His authenticity is on a whole other level of its own. His traditional World War II pinups are what you see in old movies. If you didn't no any better you would say they were taken at the time. Michael Malak is on my list of dream jobs. Hopefully one day I will have the pleasure of working with him.
