Sweet Taste of Freedom ~ Tumbleweeds

This next lady, well, she is just the bees knees.  She is a baker by trade (come on she has knuckle tattoos that say BAKE SALE) and a sweet handcrafted sunnies maker, also by day.

I just sort of stumbled upon her shop and blog and fell in love!  Be sure to check out her websites and support a shop owner!

Where are you from? Douglas and I are both southern born, lived in Tucson for a while, spent the last year in San Diego, California and are now living in a tiny fishing town in Florida, where you can literally toss a stone from one side of town to another. It's pretty amazing. Small towns can bring out the best in you.

How did you get your store/business started? We opened an online vintage/handmade shop about 2 years ago in Tucson, and it transformed into what we do now, which is primarily the wood veneer sunglasses. We had a vintage + handmade shop in San Diego, and plan to open shop up in Chattanooga, TN when we move in a few months. We're gypsies at heart and have moved around quite a bit in the last few years, but Tennessee is the final destination.

What inspires you? Everything! I know it's cheesy, but we draw inspiration from the world around us, kinfolk, music, the internet which seems to always be buzzing with new wonderful things, each other and the crazy imagination we were both born with.

How long have you been open and what is some of your favorite items? We have been making sunglasses for about 8 months, and my favorite item would have to be the Plum Patchwork sunglasses. Doug's favorite sunglasses are the Amboyna. We've also been collecting/selling oddities for some time, and I think just about everything we've ever had has been our favorite at one point or another!

What celebrity would you most like have praise your store/product(s)? Oh! Doug says Christopher Walken, and I would be so stoked to see Miss Zooey in our sunglasses! In real life, our super rad friend {and hip-hop celebrity} Isaiah Toothtakerowns a pair of our custom sunglasses and we're pretty stoked that he sports them!
If you had to use only one word to describe yourself, what would it be? Old fashioned, in so many ways. Southern! Oops! That's three words!

What is your biggest pet peeve? How the internet and online shopping has made people want things overnight, the moment they push the "buy" button. We take our time to make sure our product is the highest quality possible, and that's how we always will be. Like I said, we're old fashioned!

What are your favorite websites? I have a few blogs I read daily, Dinosaur ToesA Beautiful Mess, and Little Chief Honeybee, but I also have been loving following along with a project our friend Jesse Burke has been working on with his sweet daughter Clover!

What would people be surprised to learn about you? We have made every single pair of sunglasses by hand, in our living room/converted workshop...all 740 of them! People come over and expect a big work space, but until a week ago, we lived in a one bedroom cottage in San Diego and used our living room and laundry room to work in!
