January Highlights Sweetness Overload

Well 2012 started out, not the most impressive.  I didn't make it til midnight, I fell asleep early, and maybe that is where the downhill slump started.  Who knows, however, I dwell in the here and now, and look forward to the future!  Here is a look back at what January provided for me.

January Highlights
-Got a new job, that I am going to love!
-Shared and experienced the kindness of humanity.  You get back, what you put out.
-Kitchen Stool Re-Do
-Taught how to refill a vintage compact
-Had a photo featured on Pinup Lifestyle (less than 1% of people have this happen)
-Was able to gain some major sponsors! *kisses*
-Placed second in a magazine competition for Atomic Bombshells Magazine.
-Scheduled several photo shoots and had a photo published in Vicious Betties!
-Have a BOOK coming out in February/March of my pinup work! A BOOK!

January Book ~ Design*Sponge
Have you all read this book?  If not, I strongly recommend picking it up for a hearty dose of inspiration.  I love the website, but being able to hold the beautifully bound book is far greater that just searching the site for interesting things.  It will, now, be a constant reference for me.  Besides, don't we all love a little dose of magic?

What book(s) are you currently reading, or getting to read in February?  I have mine already picked out!

Makeout Monday ~ Things I love this week

(Unknown, Source, Source, Source, Source, Source, )

I love Valentines day, don't you? Pinks, reds, sparkle, and hearts!  Do you have plans for Valentines Day?  The Mr. and I always journey to an Italian Restaurant that we have ate at every year since we moved to Kansas City.

Sweetness Overload

This week was really a pretty easy going week.  I ate cake for breakfast one day, a fact that Mr. Elliott won't let me live down.  Managed to do a DIY that will be featured next week, so cute!  Enjoyed a pedicure and got dolled up for a fun evening with my gal pal, Megan, to attend a shop opening in Lawrence KS.

Kem's Weekend Kandy

Kindness Journals, are they working?  Have you been trying to find ways to help someone out, without expecting reciprocation, or immediate gratification?

1. This week my kindness was in the form of donation.  I dropped off some clothes that Mr. Elliott and I had not wore in a long time.  I did this at one of the drop boxes in town.  I am calling it a faceless donation.  Clothes that are still good, in style, just not being used by my family.

This weekend is going to be the wrap up of January.  I am so glad cause that means we are 5 weeks closer to spring.  I am not complaining, because our winter has been fantastic!  Not too cold, just a dusting  of snow.  Not bad.

I am going to be working on a new DIY.  I always have a blank front porch after December through about April.  There are no holidays that you decorate the outside of your house for during those months, and I have to say, my porch and window boxes get a little sad looking.  Here is some inspiration I came across.

Wish me luck! I am not sure what I am going to come up with.

Sweet DIY Project ~ 1950's Kitchen Stool

We purchased this stool over our Christmas Holiday at an Antiques Shop.  I have literally been looking for one of these for, oh I don't know, forever.  This one was only $4. As you can see, it needed some love!

Mr. Elliott sandblasted it, to remove the rust, and I selected a bright orange color for it's base.  After Mr. Elliott painted it all, he replaced all the hardware and purchased new feet for it.  I selected a cheery teal fabric print with birds and a leaf pattern.  I think we made it look brand new, and I could not be happier!

Sweet Taste of Freedom ~ Dynamite Dames Photography

Dynamite Dames // Facebook // Website //

I have had the pleasure of working with this lady twice!  She is a ton of fun and always turns out some amazing photographs, and if Vintage Flair is in tow, get ready for some sweet 80's dance parties!

Where are you from?

I currently live in good ol' Fort Worth, Texas.. However I was born and raised in Las Vegas, NV until the ripe ol' age of 21.

How did you get your store/business started?

It actually started on a whim. I was studying film photography in college for the heck of it.. (I had also taken it previously in highschool). I decided to do my final on subculture women. I did 2 shoots in pinup form just for kicks and aced the final. My friend who was a former pinup model asked if I wanted to start a business on the side so I went with it. We did some shoots just for fun, and people started seeing it..they asked to book shoots.. and it just snowballed. I am about to hit my 4 year anniversary and venture into year 5.. and I couldn't be happier.

What inspires you?
The weirdest things can inspire me. Amazing women. Ridiculously talented photographers. A dress. A movie.. even a song. I have this crazy mind that never stops going (even when I get sleep). I'm constantly thinking of new sets, themes, etc. Needless to say, I'm easily inspired from anything.

How long have you been open and what is some of your favorite items?
I started my business in December of 2007. My favorite items? I guess I would resort to shots I've done. Some of them include the gal with the pickup and huge T Bone steak. The gal with the grilled cheese and jack bottle. My Voodoo Queen set. The Russian in the Ice Cave. My Sea Siren. And then I always adore doing shoots of tattooed women. Really simple backgrounds and beautiful art all over.

What celebrity would you most like have praise your store/product(s)?

Oh wow.. um. Celebrity would be Dita Von Teese.. that would be a dream shoot of course. And of course I wouldn't mind a classic photographer if they were still around like Bernard of Hollywood or perhaps Bunny Yaeger.

If you had to use only one word to describe yourself, what would it be?

What is your biggest pet peeve?
Passive Aggressiveness. Bad Manners. OH and leaving that empty milk carton in the fridge.

What are your favorite websites?
I have so many! As far as things go with my business..I would say (clothing stuff)
and thats just a couple

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

A lot don't know that I'm a stay at home mom with 2 small kids. OR a classical trained pianist of 16 years

Stay Sweet,

Nearly Famous ~ Pinup Wednesday!

Age: A lady never tells!

Occupation:  I'm one busy lady!  Pin Up Model, Ballerina, College Student, Ballet Teacher, occasional go-go dancer

Where are you from: SoCal, I grew up in San Diego and then spent a few years in the City of Angels.  Now I live in New York City and am loving it!

Favorite photographer to work with:  Sailors Grave Photography and Mike55 Photography

Featured photo(s):
Artist/Photographer/location of featured photo(s)
Photos in (and out) of green dress by Mike55 Photography (Long Island, NY)
Photos with records by Sailors Grave Photography  (Brooklyn, NY)
Photo with car by Tony Trezza  (Queens, NY)
Photo with vintage airplane by Annemarie Bain  (Long Island, NY)

For all of these photos I did my own makeup and hair.

Tell me about your featured photo(s). When were they taken? Why are they your favorite?  All of these photos were taken relatively recently, within the past 4 months or so.  I had a blast shooting with each of these photographers and love that they are all sassy but classy.

How long have you been modeling/enjoying photography?  I have been modeling on and off for a few years, but in the past year decided to focus exclusively on Pin Up.  I've been in love with vintage culture since I was a kid, got my first Eddie Cochran tape at age 10!  I'm finally now pursuing a dream of being a Pin Up girl!

Who are your favorite Pinup Models? Past or present inspiration?  Without a doubt Betty Grable.  I also love Jayne Mansfield and all the Petty girls. For more modern inspiration I like the incredibly lovely Dita.

What is some of your favorite clothing lines? Favorite Designers?  I was lucky enough to inherit many of my super stylish Nana's vintage dresses.  Not only do I have some of my grandmother's dresses, but also some from my great aunt, her sister.  Modern clothing lines I like are Freddies of Pinewood, Stop Staring, and Pin Up Girl Clothing, but I actually hate shopping!  When I'm not all dolled up I spend a lot of time wearing items from Adidas!

If you could shoot with any photographer, who would it be?  Well, I waited years to shoot with the fabulously talented Roy Varga.....I'd love to shoot with him again!  Also, if given the opportunity, I'd be super excited to shoot with Mitzi & Co and Viva Van Story.

Makeout Monday ~ Things I like this week

(Source, Source, Source, unknown, Source)
I don't know if it my yearning for spring, or maybe just a need for something a little different, but this post is all about the sea.  You know, they say the cure for anything is salt water; Sweat, Tears, or the Sea.

I hope you are having a lovely Monday!

Cape: ModCloth
Belt: Levi's
Jeans: Seven Brand
Booties: ModCloth

The moment the cape and booties arrived, I knew it was love at first sight!  That little dog is Winston, he just turned 9, so I thought I would give him the opportunity to charm his way into your heart, like he has to mine.
